DATABASE
Inherited from the Documentation Center of Cambodia, the Research Center will upgrade and use four databases to catalogue documentary materials and to facilitate research. In September 2001, we began modifying these databases to present the information in a different form and to include new information. In 2005, we unveiled our new databases. However, the eleven-step process used to catalogue the documents must be followed and there are more work to be done to enrich the databases and to make it user-friendly.
There are several collections of documents the Research Center needs to work on toward completion of our database system before making them available for use. Our database search engine is still not adequately intuitive and user-friendly. We plan to work with an IT expert to upgrade this to allow for better searches and to streamline Khmer and English transliterations for consistency. These upgrades will require tedious work, as each entry within the system will have to be cross-checked and revised for better accuracy and consistency.
